As the name would suggest, this is yet another video slot created to celebrate the Christmas festivities, but while the overall impression will depend much on whether you enjoy the holiday season, Happy Holidays has been designed tastefully and, as such, offers a rewarding gaming experience.
You pretty much know what to expect from one such slot game, as Santa Claus, adorable children, Christmas Tree, turkey and stockings are inevitable, with gingerbread house and other treats definitely a welcoming addition.
Once a leading software provider, Microgaming hasn’t exactly done themselves proud with their latest work, releasing too many games that resemble one another, but Peek-a-Boo, Happy Holidays and few other titles cannot fall into this category.
The well known gaming company appears to be making an effort to overcome a difficult period and prove they have what it takes to combat the competition, although they will need to start improving the game visuals and introduce some innovative features if they want to succeed in their quest.
How to Play
We have really enjoyed the opening scene of Happy Holidays that depicts a nice, peaceful neighbourhood on a cold, winter night, presumably Christmas Eve, with smoke coming out of chimneys of two neighbouring houses.
Don’t get too engrossed in the storyline as you also need to choose the desired stake before playing for the first time, but you can easily take care of that through the use of a game options panel.
Click on bet to reveal a drop-up menu and select coin size and number of coins to wager between $0.30 and $30 per single spin.
Obtain three or more Christmas Bulbs in any position and 10 free games will be awarded. Instead of the 243 winning ways used in the main game, the 1,024 winning ways format is used during the feature.
On top of that, the Snowman symbol can transform into of other four high value icons to improve your winning chances.
Meanwhile, Frosty Feature can really come in handy seeing that it can strike randomly on a non-winning spin to award cash pay for each high value symbol appearing on the reels. During the Frosty Feature, only one Scatter is needed to trigger the Free Spins.
When it comes to base play payouts, there do not appear as often as we would have liked given the 243 winning ways format, but while most wins tend to be below-par, every once in a while you will land a prize equal to 20-30x total bet.
Maximum theoretical payout is $88,000, which sounds great, but chances are you will not be so lucky as to land the top prize. Having said that, the Free Spins round and random Frosty Feature has the potential to drive up your earnings.
Happy Holidays is not among the best paying slots in the industry, but it gives players a decent shot at winning and has several aces up its sleeve. If you are sick and tired of Christmas themed slots, you might want to look elsewhere, but even if we are no fans of recurring themes, we didn’t find the Microgaming title to be such a pain.
If you, however, enjoy the festive season, you will probably love Happy Holidays.
