Many people believe that casino games offer a perfect way to unwind after a hard day’s work and if you are looking for a relaxing experience that will make you forget about all your worries, then Serenity is a perfect fit.
The Microgaming title features an oriental theme, where the background depicting an Asian temple at dusk and incredibly soothing sound effects will get you in a stage of tranquility and comfort that cannot be matched.
Microgaming has been getting plenty of stick for rolling out games that all look like one another and we dare say rightly so, as the well-known software provider hasn’t been on top of their game over the last few years.
Nevertheless, they have started to show some improvement of late, launching very good games such as Peek-a-Boo and Happy Holidays, and while Serenity comes close to being included in said category, it falls just short due to poor overall value.
How to Play
You are probably used to seeing game options panel below the reels and this one is hard to miss given that the game screen is transparent and said panel features options coloured in dark shade of purple that acts as a nice contrast to bright game symbols.
Coin size, number of coins and number of active lines can be selected via the Bet button, whereas Win allows you to see win history and also view wins in both coins and credits. Auto Play and Spin are found to the far right, while Paytable is opened by clicking on Pays symbol positioned in the top right hand corner.
Unlike most other Microgaming titles to have been released in 2015 and 2016, Serenity features both a bonus game and Free Spins round, in addition to the standard Wild and Scatter icons.
If you happen to receive three or more Scatter symbols in any position, 10 free spins will be played for starters, where all subsequent wins will be multiplied by x3. The feature can also be re-triggered.
Three or more Temple Bonus icons on an active payline trigger the Lantern Bonus, where you can win up to 300x, 400x or 500x line bet, depending on the number of icons that unlocked the feature. You are required to select three lanterns from a total of 12 to reveal the overall win amount.
Two bonus rounds are obviously better than one, and while it would appear as though Serenity offers players a decent chance of winning, it will not be easy to get those Bonus icons to appear on an active payline in groups of three or more.
Maximum amount that can be won per spin while playing Serenity is $120,000, although it is not realistic to expect the top prize will strike on your watch. When it comes to main game payouts, these are far from impressive, meaning that you will need the Free Spins round to occur every once in a while if you are to stand any chance of turning a profit.
Even though the game visuals are not exactly top notch, the oriental theme and excellent sound effects make for a rewarding gaming experience.
However, under-par base line payouts and less than impressive bonus rounds further support the claim that Microgaming titles no longer offer good value for money. And while Serenity shows a lot of promise during the first impression, it eventually fails to deliver.
